Om het 6-jarig bestaan van Confucius Institute Day te vieren, nodigt het Confucius Institute at  GROUP T – Academy op 24 oktober 2019 het Chinees Nationaal Traditionele Orkest, het grootste en meest complete nationale ensemble in de wereld, uit voor een prachtig Chinees Traditioneel Muziek Concert in Campus Groep T – KU Leuven. Deze voorstelling creëert niet enkel een sfeer van Chinese cultuur en kunst, maar maakt ook een mooie brug van vriendschap tussen België en China.

China National Traditional Orchestra

The China National Traditional Orchestra (CNTO) is a state-level performing arts group funded by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. It is the largest and most comprehensive music institution of its kind in the world, comprising a full orchestra, a chorus and offices for concerts and composition, etc. Founded in 1960 under the guidance of the late Premier Zhou Enlai, CNTO’s inaugural President Li Huanzhi is an esteemed composer and Chairman of the Chinese Musicians Association. Current leadership consists of party secretary Xi Qiang and the deputy directors Zhao Dongsheng, Liu Yupu , Qiao Aili, Zhao Cong and Tang Feng . CNTO carries the mission of promoting China’s musical heritage. With an extensive repertoire of traditional and new works, CNTO has long contributed to the country’s cultural landscape. Throughout the decades, all of China’s leaders - Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin, Hu Jintao, Xi Jinping - and many foreign dignitaries have enjoyed CNTO’s performances, many of which having won high praises. CNTO has visited numerous countries over the years, among them the United States, Mexico, Peru, Russia, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Austria, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Greece, Australia, Egypt, Columbia, Ecuador, Israel, Singapore, Malaysia, Korea and Japan in all the five continents. Besides the orchestra performs in the Chinese territories of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan quite often in order to connect to the Chinese people living there. In recent years, CNTO has produced such full-length programmes that become the repertoire of the company, such as Impressions: Chinese Music, Rediscover Chinese Music, Looking for Dufu, Golden Echoes, Beautiful Rivers and Mountains, Grand Music from China, Bridge to Chinese Music, Cowherd and Weaver Maid, Chinese Music in Splendor, Beautiful Xinjiang, Tibetan Spring, Love Songs in the Moonlight, The Silk Road, Sun Yat-sen, and Xuanzang’s Pilgrimage.
